Kindly hosted by Emory Law School, members of the European Civil Justice Centre had the pleasure of participating in the 2026 David J. Bederman Symposium on Access
to Global Justice: National Justice Systems as Engines of International Law on 26 March 2026. The symposium was organised by Magdalena Tulibacka (member of the Advisory Board).

The event explored the challenges and diversity surrounding access to justice as a foundational concern at a global level.

The first panel was dedicated to ‘Reimagining Access to Justice: Constitutional Foundations and Digital Innovation’. Alan Uzelac opened the session by addressing the European approach to access to justice, due process and judicial independence. Xandra Kramer discussed the constitutional foundations and digital innovation shaping access to justice alongside other panelists, and provided insights into the legal framework and (political) discourse and practice of public interest litigation in the Netherlands.

In the panel on ‘Financing Access to Justice’, moderated by Stefaan Voet, John Sorabji spoke about the evolving landscape of access to justice and litigation funding in England and Wales, while Adrian Cordina reflected on developments in litigation funding at the EU level.
